We’ve all been there. You go through all the effort of creating a site for your business. Maybe you labor through it yourself, maybe you shell out for a fancy web designer to do it for you. You edit it, retouch it, get it presentable, and finally…you launch your site. At last, you have a place to direct potential clients and customers to and business is booming! Now you can sit back and let it be. Right?
Maintaining your customer or client base depends on keeping your website relevant and up-to-date. That head shot you had taken in 1986 isn’t going to fly in 2017, and the copy you had written when you launched your website isn’t going to remain effective forever. As the times change, so should your content.
So how can you keep your website up-to-date and interesting?
Keep a blog and post regularly
Adding a blog section to your site keeps readers informed and keeps them coming back. With an increased audience stream coming to your site, you’ll be boosting sales and spreading the voice of your company even further.
Update those photos!
Stagnant, outdated photos from ten years ago aren’t going to cut it. You want to look friendly, fun, and approachable! Or at the very least, modern and professional. With a plethora of stellar photographers to choose from, it shouldn’t be hard to get a few decent pictures taken to add to your site. If you’re in the states, look up my friend Kate Miller–she’s an amazing photographer with insanely good rates! Or hire anybody else you please; just make sure they’re good!
Make sure your copy changes with the times
Having good copy (the written content on your site) can make or break the success of your website. But what was good when you launched your site might not be good now. Keep stats and info up-to-date and make sure you’re appealing to the right audience. Update your content regularly to ensure your site maintains its traffic. Utilizing SEO and keyword research will make sure your site is picked up by search engines, which is vital to increasing your audience.
Get on Social Media
Having active social media accounts linked to your site is key. If you don’t already, start an Instagram account, Facebook page, and Twitter account. Keep active on all your social media accounts in order to stay relevant. Pictures of your products, links to related blog posts, whatever makes your company unique should be highlighted on your social media. And don’t be afraid to get involved–commenting, sharing other posts, and retweeting all come back to you as increased traffic. So get posting!
